  • What's This Day For?

Roo: What's this day for, Mommy?
Me: Well, it's for loving each other and being kind to others and working hard and---
    Roo: Hey Mommy?
    Me: Yes?
Roo: I were actually just wondering what's on the SCHEDULE. For WEDNESDAY.

  • Yetis

Roo: Are yetis real or pretend?
Me: They're pretend. There are lots of stories about them, but they're not real.
Roo: Oh. What about me? *I* am real?
Me: I'm looking at you right now, and you are VERY real.
Roo: Oh. Okay. Good. Mommy? *YOU* are real, Mommy?
    Me: I am.
Roo: And Mama? And Nana? *THEY* are real and not pretend?
    Me: They're real too, buddy.
    Roo: Everyone we know...is real?
Me: Everyone we know is real.
    Roo: Good.

  • Monster Trucks

Roo: Mommy! This monster truck is saying to the little car 'Please may I jump over you? I won't crunch you, because crunching is not a kind thing to do.'
Me: And what is the little car saying?
Roo: He's saying, 'Thank you for being such a kind friend, monster truck. Crunching makes me uncomfortable.'

  • Goat Cheese

Roo: Hey, Mommy? I need to tell you that I not really like goat cheese all that much. It's not my favorite.
Me: Well, it is something of an acquired taste. Have you ever HAD goat cheese?
    Roo: Some years ago.
Me: Some years ago? In your youth?
    Roo: Yeah.
